Raw Material

Raw Material

Raw material refers to unprocessed materials found in nature that is able to be turned into a usable, normally commercially available material. Raw material ranges from sea water to lumber from trees. You may be wondering how sea water is a raw material. Sea water contains a salt that is quickly becoming more popular, sea salt.
Raw material is often called raw because it contains everything it came with originally. It is not a pure material. Once the raw material gets refined by some sort of refinery, the material is then called pure or refined material.

Uses for Raw Material

There is no real use for raw material until it is refined. Raw material on its own is not homogeneous and is therefore lesser in quality. Raw material, however, is very cheap. That is why so many third world countries with a lot of resources are so poor. Even though they have valuable natural material, is raw and therefore has no immediate use and comes in large quantities. It sometimes comes in large quantities because is contains other things, so what you get is less of what you want than you think.
The refining process is often the most expensive part. Then it travels to a refinery and the raw or organic material, whatever it may be, is processed and then molded into something useful. This can take a lot of time and money. The refining process is also not as abundant as the material and is therefore in demand. This is why people can charge so much for the end product.

Organic Material

Organic material is organic because it is made in nature. Now you might think, "Well then, how is something not organic?" I'll tell you. Although all things that we have do originate from earth, they are often altered or remixed in such a way that it isn't found normally in nature. This is often a change that is dealt with by chemist and chemistry related fields. A lot of chemicals today are not organic because a human had to intervene and change it to what it is today.
Organic material can mean the same as natural material, although often times when people refer to natural material it is implied that there is less tampering going on and that very little has changed. Organic on the other hand can mean that it is made of natural materials, but has had some altering done.
