Cashmere and cotton fabrics have conquered the hearts of Americans. And now, the latest rage is organic cotton clothes, organic materials and organic cotten fabrics. People have realized that polyester and acrylic suffocate your skin. The best way to escape the irritating heat of the world is to wear cotton fabrics. This material keeps your skin healthy and keeps you cooler on those hot summer days.
Here's one interesting fact about cashmere fabric. The town of Uxbridge, located in America, was regarded as an incubator for this fabric wool industry. It was the first town to have power looms for cashmere wool and was the first to produce "satinets." The well known Johnstons of Elgin that started weaving cashmere in the 18th century is the oldest running mill.
Cashmere and cotton have one big thing in common. They are both natural fabrics. Synthetic fabrics like nylon and polyester are no match for them. Cashmere and cotton are devoid of irritating and harmful chemicals barring any unforseen pestisides. When you wear cotton clothes, you feel close to nature. Moreover, you are doing some good to the environment by promoting chemical-free fabrics. This is one small step towards fighting global warming!
The other day, I wore white cotton pants and was counting the number of compliments I got! My grandma does not leave the house without her favorite cotton scarf on her head!
Recently, on my tour to China, I dug out an amazing fact about this cotton haven - India. According to the Chinese, the Indian land is laden with so much cotton that even the largest textile mills of China order cotton yarn material from India. There are two reasons for this - cotton fabric is cheaper and of high quality in India.
I am already looking forward for my next trip to India. Missing those cashmere and cotton markets! For now I guess I will just have to do with what I have. Perhaps I can take some of the materials and make something useful. Perhaps a pillow will work. Cotten is great for making pillows and pillow covers. I bet more of your pillows are made out of or contain cotten. It is truly a wonderful fabric. Here's to the fabric that was and always will be the best.
